{"id":160,"date":"2008-09-25T14:09:02","date_gmt":"2008-09-25T08:39:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/themagnumgroup.net\/Blog\/160.htm"},"modified":"2020-04-04T14:53:24","modified_gmt":"2020-04-04T09:23:24","slug":"the-need-for-fast-machines-for-cad-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/themagnumgroup.net\/Blog\/the-need-for-fast-machines-for-cad-services\/","title":{"rendered":"The Need for Fast Machines for CAD Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 20px 20px 0pt; max-width: 800px; float: left;\" alt=\"Fast computer for CAD services\" src=\"http:\/\/themagnumgroup.net\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/dreamstime-4764326racecar.jpg\" width=\"216\" height=\"90\"><b>Imagine<\/b> if you owned a Ferrari and one day someone said, &#8220;Why are you driving such a slow car?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b>Well, something similar happened to us yesterday.<\/b> It wasn&#8217;t a Ferrari, it was a Pentium 4 PC  (3Ghz + 2GB RAM) that we had bought new a year and a half ago, and which we thought was pretty fast for the task.<\/p>\n<p><b>Our best customer<\/b>, who was French and had been working with us in Chennai for 10 months told us just before leaving, &#8220;That machine needs to be upgraded, it&#8217;s too slow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b>We were perplexed,<\/b> because the configuration we bought is what had been recommended by the customer&#8217;s customer&#8230; <b><i>anyway<\/i><\/b>, that really didn&#8217;t matter, because indeed, the machine behaved slowly when it was performing its 3D engineering design task using Bentley MicroStation and its PlantSpace plugin. (The task was esigning HVAC for a monster cruise liner.)<\/p>\n<p><b>So now we&#8217;re out to beef up<\/b> the performance of our CAD services by pulling in a Core 2 Quad processor and a couple of Gigs of RAM.
