A recent report in The Australian<\/a> claims that coal-based power plants are forced to idle because of solar power.<\/p>\n

Australian government bonus schemes promise rooftop solar power producers 44c\/ kWh for electricity they pour into the grid, whereas baseload generators are allowed only 4c\/ kWh. In addition, the fact that sizeable solar power is being pumped into the grid in a distributed fashion (instead of from single, large power plants) is causing technology problems on the grid.<\/p>\n

Government responses to the claim are not mentioned, but our feeling is that large-scale power generation in Australia may go the way of telegrams or dinosaurs.<\/p>\n
