Or as a cone with a square hole through it? Or as a plate with an array of octagonal holes? Food designed with CAD is now a reality (although how good it is for you is open to question… )

Anjan Contractor, a mechanical engineer with a 3D printing background, has just received a 125,000 dollar grant from NASA to develop a 3D food printer. The raw materials will be powdered everyday foods, which he says will be available easily as food printing becomes popular. And this popularity, he says, is bound to happen by the end of this century because of the food scarcities caused by a projected earthly population of 12 billion (can’t we, er, slow down?)

NASA, of course, funded this to satisfy astronauts’ need for food on long trips to Mars. To see more pictures of what this printed food will look like, go here (WARNING: the referenced page contains graphic images not suitable for people who like healthy food).

In any case, if you would like us to design your food for you to print, check out our CAD services page (we also draw things other than 3D food, in the event you want something weird like an architectural or engineering drawing )

Technorati Tags: 3d printing,3d food,3d food printing,printing food,cad services,the magnum group

Like eating food shaped as a truncated tetrahedron?
