CAD Services: Manipulate 3D Virtual Objects with Your Hands
Many of us are familiar with designing 3D objects using specialized software such as AutoCAD. As the designer painstakingly creates the object, it is necessary for him to manipulate the object in three dimensions. He has to do this to have access to all points on the object, which is required for say, adding a part at a particular spot on the object.
The designer typically manipulates the object in three dimensions using a mouse.
There is now an alternate object manipulation method developing, one that may have been inspired by several recent sci-fi movies: manipulation by moving your hands in the air.
The movements (or ‘gestures’ as they have come to be called) are mostly the same ones the designer would use if he were handling an actual object: grasping and rotating, lifting and so on. To get a very good idea of the concept, watch this video (produced by the inventor of the application, Elon Musk of Spacex:
As regular creators of 3D objects, we at TMG feel that hand gestures would definitely add convenience to the hundreds of manipulations we perform during the creation of our objects. The application is in its development stage at present and we look forward to its final testing and introduction into the CAD mainstream.
