A Cardiovascular Modeling Expert on Our Radio Show!
August 31, 2008 on 7:57 pm | In CAD News | No Comments
We had a spectacular guest on our Engineering, Architecture and CAD radio show: a PhD from MIT.
He’s Dr. Thomas Heldt, a researcher in cardiovascular modeling from that distinguished university. In our 30-minute segment, he describes how he solved a perplexing problem for NASA: astronauts fainting soon after they returned from space and tried to stand up.
Related in simple-to-understand, fascinating terms, this episode is a tale of the scientific tradition and the academic expertise of MIT.
Listen to it here.
Enjoy the show,

How to Minimize Your Risk When Using CAD Services
August 30, 2008 on 1:40 pm | In CAD News | No Comments
You’ve done your due diligence and homed in on a particular CAD services provider. You have told them what you want done, and they have quickly sent you a quote for $1200. They are asking for a deposit of 50%.
$600 isn’t chump change. You are shuddering at the thought of how you would feel if the money vanished without the drawings appearing.
So how do you minimize the risk of this happening?
Very simple. It’s the entire assignment consists of a set of, say, 14 drawings, you ask them to produce only one of them and quote you for only that one instead of the whole set!
In that case your deposit will be only 50% of the price of one drawing, which will be much less, maybe around $50.
Don’t be afraid that this will scare them away; smart CAD services are keen, like any other business, to acquire new customers and will be happy to oblige you.
And, of course, if you are happy with the one drawing, you can ask them to create another installment of drawings. The size of the second installment can be fixed depending on how much trust you have developed in the provider during the course of the first assignment.
If the small first assignment, on the other hand, resulted in a nasty experience, then your loss is minimal. Also remember that in exchange for the money you lost, you gained in experience. Specifically, you now know the signs of a bad CAD services provider.
Using the above method, outsourcing your drafting to a CAD services provider need no longer be a perilous experience!
Enjoy your design life,

One of the Things Customers Want to See in a CAD Service
August 29, 2008 on 9:54 pm | In CAD News | 1 CommentThere’s this thing that customers expect to see in a CAD service. It’s very obvious, but it’s surprising how many CAD services do not provide it. It’s something very simple: a 24-hour response to email messages.
I can understand why they feel that way. I personally am a member of several paid websites which have customer support departments. When I submit a support ticket to one of the busiest sites, I consistently get a response within one or two hours! This is pretty incredible, considering that many times it is the in the wee hours of the morning in the Western Hemisphere when my support ticket goes out. [I'm in Asia, where my daytime is the West's nighttime].
When it takes more than a day for a company to get back to me, I start marking them down in my mind.
The Magnum Group has instituted a policy to respond to all customer e-mail within 24 hours. Judging from the number of “thank you for your prompt reply” e-mails we get from our customers, this is undoubtedly a very good decision!
Want to try it out ? Just go to our homepage, write a message in the message box and click the submit button. You will hear from us, right as rain!
Have a great day,
