Maritime HVAC Design Progresses Nicely

This is one of our most important projects: the design of machinery room layouts for a monster cruise liner (133,000+ tons!) due for rollout in 2008 (see our press report), and it’s moving forward smartly.

It’s an important project for our European customer as well, so important that they have deputed a skilled HVAC design engineer to oversee the project for a whole year.

At left you see the engineer with me, as we discuss fine points of the HVAC design. We employ a separate technical group just to perform the complicated calculations required for designing the HVAC ducting. Examples of parameters we address are pressure drop and sound levels. A second group performs the spatial layout of the HVAC ducts using advanced 3D engineering design software.

All this was not built in a day — it took both the teams nearly one month to attain the speed necessary to meet the stringent deadlines of the project.

Happily, we are way ahead of schedule and the ball is presently in the customer’s court. We are certain of returning the ball quickly whenever it comes to ours!
